High School Fads: the In

Saturday, June 29, 2013

Okay, well I have reached the end of this three part installment(?) and this was definitely my favorite part to brainstorm for.
Mainly because... dresses.

I am so glad that they are "in."

Popular, or "in", styles of dresses vary from tea-length to maxi, with peter-pan collars or as scoop-necked as they come.
Here's a few cute ones:

Oh my, I do love dresses. I tend to windowshop at all of the amazing vintage websites but being slightly strapped for cash... I just shop at Ross Dress for Less.

Another style that is definitely cool this summer is metallic sandals. I have a pair that I wear practically everyday.

Sandals are just as easy to slip on as flipflops (most of the time) and they look that slight amount classier.

I am sure that there are so many things more "in" but these were a few that I have been wearing personally.

Have a great summer!

High School Fads: The Isthatreallystillhappening?

Lets talk things that are still going on.

Like those bra shirts that show your midriff. So many girls tried to wear them. Dress code always got them first.

Well maybe being a 00s kid I like longer shirts?
Truth be told ive found myself showing more skin. But a "bralet"...

Ahhh fedoras. The hipster hat. For every high school event there was the hat-guy.

It seems that they are now feminine-product-y but hey. They are a classic.

Well, I only have one more installment. Then I'll be a college student.

Freaky...

High School Fads: the Out

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

So when I started my first day of high school I was wearing a shirt that I would shudder to wear now. It was that plaid that was so popular four years ago, that all one color plaid. I had a few v neck shirts in this lovely pattern.

They looked a bit like this

But, uh... shorter and not as fashionable. Definitely not.

Also ( though I never wore them) t-shirts with the sides cut long or tank top-y. Well I haven't seen them around in a while. Maybe it's just not summer?

Trends have evolved, even in just four years. Pants got tighter ( than looser ) than tighter again. Sheer tops were fantastic and now...
Vintage was definitely not IN back during freshman year. It was also the dawn of the hipster. Woo.

Good gosh I have so many memories.

Confession time: I was super unfashionable my freshman sophomore years. Jeans and a tshirt were my uniform.

Now I diversify (thank God) but I still have slacker days sometimes. :P

Lots of Love!

High School Fads: intro

Monday, May 20, 2013

Okay, so I'm nearing the end of my own high school career and I've decided that as a way to look back and remember all the fun(?) times I had in these past four years I would look at some of the clothing and fashion styles that have graced my career.
This will be in three parts: The Out, The Isthatreallystillhappening?, and The In.
Be prepared because over the next few weeks, I will dredge up some things that should never resurface and/or need to die ASAP.
See you soon!

Go Class of 2013!

Nearing the End

Sunday, May 19, 2013

Okay, so I have been being run ragged. Senior year is a doozy.
Thankfully I have good friends and a great family to support me and all of my crazy aspirations.
The absolute best perk of my senior year was being able to go to Prom. And I looked fabulous.
My nails were really simple, shiny with a French tip and flowers, but the cool part was how easy it was to stick them on.
I don't normally wear fake nails so it was pleasant how simple it was.
Peel the backing, apply to nail, press hard!
I actually wore these nails for Prom and two different award banquets. If one fell off I would just stick another on.
Here's a picture:

I am just so excited about graduating. Yay!

Whoop

Happy super belated Easter! I am STILL enjoying half price holiday candy. ;)
Anyways, I chose the college that I will spend the next FOUR years of my life at.
Cuh-razy right?
Anyways, Johns Hopkins University. I will major in biomedical engineering. So artsy fartsy amirite?
So today I "skipped" school and instead gave mini tours of the robotics program to wee fifth graders. We made Lego keychains with a drill press. I went a bit further with my bracelet. But it is soooo cute I definitely have NO regrets.
My friend requested red with white polka dots so HERE YOU GO!

~less than three!~

Don't judge a package by its cover

Thursday, March 14, 2013

So I tried out the new nail stickers that look sooo easy. Lies.
(They do look good from a distance)
Pretty literally stickers and they require a lot of patience. I believe I would have better luck with a more calm mind but...
I wasn't accepted into MIT. Sad yes, but I am trying to get over it. I still have a bunch of colleges.
Fingers (even badly stickered ones) crossed,
Happy pi day!

Slam

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

So I have been totally inspired to try my hand at some poetry. But not oldtimey, more free verse, kindof ranting? I dunno.
I was super impressed with HannahSlams and all of her really powerful ideas.
Don't judge, okay?

""

Shhhh, whisper it.
Can you let it slip? Crawl through your lips like a lizard, sticky toes peeling loose with each step.
Murmur it.
Create a cord strung from my ear to yours. A telephone wire of tiny rippling audio waves, without any interference.
Mumble it.
Not with a text, but with a call. So soft I can barely hear it. Puffs of air tickling my anvil, stirrup, whatever other tiny bones waiting for your words.
Croon it
We shouldn’t say it, shouldn’t let those words be born unto this world. Is it ready? Are you? Am I? My mind is a racetrack, waiting for the gunshot that you are about to unleash.
Shhhh
No. I can’t handle it. I can wait. I don’t need it right now. Let’s hold this moment instead and just be grateful for the
Silence

Patient calm

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Many times I have been in high tension situations where people's emotions are running high. I get really uncomfortable, but at the same time I am fascinated. In a detached sort of way.
My method is wait it out. If I was the general, I'd wait for my enemy. But it's also important how you deport yourself in a situation like this. Don't blow up.
Say someone is cursing. A lot. It grates on my mind, I know. I grew up in a swear free household. But I've learned that if you ask others to "tone down their language" or " watch what they say" they get very affronted.
I just calmly ignore and wait. Eventually they'll stop, and if they don't I can just XKCD 1176.
(Look it up, it's good)
So be patient. Stay calm. Nonconfrontational. It'll be okay.
I promise.

Twenty -13

Crazy. Are y'all ready for this? I am.
This is the year I'll get accepted to a college.
This is the year I'll graduate high school.
This is the year I'll declare a major (probably).
Wah, this is like the most important year of my life.
My last "high school" winter break is over. The last semester is beginning.
How else am I going to face this other then gold-sparkly hot-rod red nails?
